Who we are

Our History
The Mohsin Trust consists of the five members of the Mohsin family who belong to the district. Though the Trust was registered only in 1998, its members have been active in the area for forty years, starting with the founding of Daud Bandagi School in the village of Shergarh in 1977. From the start its activities were channelled through an NGO, Anjuman-e-Khuddam-e-Rasool-Allah (AKRA), registered with the Punjab Government in 1977. Comprising the local people of Shergarh, AKRA has overseen all the educational and health projects the Mohsin Trust has initiated and endowed. Seed money for the Trust came through endowments made by the family but over the years significant donations have been made by private individuals and charitable organisations.

Our Mission
In 2016 two members of the family founded an ancillary trust: The Daud Bandagi Development Trust aimed generally at empowering people by raising awareness of their civic and legal rights and interfacing with the local administration to ensure implementation of merit and prevent abuse of power. The Trust also works to specifically empower women, creating employment and preserving traditional craft. Our aim is not to provide charity but to empower local people, both men and women, to assume collective responsibility for defining their future. The Daud Bandagi Trust’s membership has expanded to include Syed Savail Hussain (CEO Sayyed Engineers), Ali Aziz Sethi (CEO Ayman Films, musician & author) and Mira Aziz Sethi (actor & author).
Why We Help
We believe that rural communities are ill served by governments. Unlike large urban centres, their needs are usually ignored or best, overlooked. It is to correct this traditional imbalance that we have concentrated our activities on local villages and market towns. We are also aware of another historic imbalance: that between provision of facilities for men and women. Since we believe passionately in the vital necessity of women’s participation in development, we have addressed the bulk of our welfare work to women and girls. Finally, since we belong to this district we feel we are morally obliged to focus our efforts on the place that has given us our identity and that we call home.
